157 HEIs made submissions to REF 2021.

The charts below show the number of submissions made and the numbers of staff, outputs and impact case studies included in submissions. These data are available for all panels and by main panel. Where relevant, the numbers submitted to REF 2014 are also shown.

In line with the new requirement for HEIs to return all staff with significant responsibility for research in REF 2021, the total number of full-time equivalent (FTE) staff returned has increased by 46 per cent since REF 2014.
