These new members will ensure an appropriate number of members and range of expertise to undertake key tasks during the submission and assessment phases of REF 2021.
EDAP was established to advise the UK’s four higher education funding bodies, the REF team and the REF panels on the implementation of equality measures in the REF. The panel offers guidance on the development of the full range of measures to promote equality and diversity in the REF and demonstrate the UK funding bodies’ commitment to equality and diversity in research careers.
Seven members with specific skills in the areas of mental health practice, GP/medical experience, and HR experience/expertise, as well as in a range of other areas, have been appointed. These new appointments bring the membership to 12 individuals, as three members from the criteria-setting phase have now retired from the panel. They will join Professor Dianne Berry OBE, appointed as the chair of EDAP in March 2017, and the existing EDAP members who have expertise in equality and diversity issues affecting research careers and experience in research leadership and management. They represent a range of institutions from around the UK.
Professor Dianne Berry said:
“I am delighted to welcome the new EDAP members to the exercise. These individuals bring significant expertise and experience to these roles, and will play a key role in ensuring that equality and diversity considerations are taken fully into account in REF 2021. There is much for EDAP to do in the coming months, providing guidance to the funding bodies on HEIs’ codes of practice and advising panels in their assessment of the environment statement. I look forward to working with them to ensure we build on the advances made in REF 2014.”
