The assessment systems panel user group is tasked with facilitating the work of the REF 2021 sub-panels throughout the assessment phase and advising the design of the IT systems that will be implemented for distribution, assessment, audit and reporting. The aim in developing systems for the assessment phase is to enable the efficient conduct of the panels' work and to allow the effective management of the panel processes by the REF team, and effective oversight by main panels.

The purpose of the assessment systems panel user group is for panel members and advisers to provide the REF development team with advice for the development of the assessment systems for use by the sub-panels. To facilitate this advice we are holding focus group style meetings to ascertain the key issues for sub-panels and to consider appropriate technical responses.

The assessment systems panel user group is made up of representatives of each sub-panel, and will include advisers and impact assessors. Representatives from Research England engage in a facilitative role.
