The four UK higher education funding bodies are at the preliminary stages of adapting the details of the 2021 Research Excellence Framework (REF). This follows the decision to put the REF on hold last month, while institutions respond to the effects of Covid-19.

To inform the REF development work, initial views will be invited from the HE sector on two central issues for the revised exercise: the timing of the new submission deadline; and the broad approach to taking account of effects on impact case studies.

The REF team, based at Research England, will run a live webinar at 10:00 - 11:00 on Tuesday 21 April, explaining the issues and questions on which views will be sought. The webinar will also be available to view on the REF website afterwards.

Views on these two issues will be gathered via a short survey, which will also open on Tuesday 21 April, following the webinar. The deadline for responses will be noon, Tuesday 5 May.
