New opportunities are available to contribute to the criteria-setting phase of the Research Excellence Framework (REF). Applications are now invited for up to 23 experienced research professionals to serve on the panel secretariat to support the main and sub-panels. The REF team is seeking to appoint, on a secondment basis:

  • Up to ten panel advisers to provide high level procedural guidance to one main panel and a group of sub-panels.
  • Up to thirteen panel secretaries to provide high-quality, dedicated secretariat support and procedural guidance to one main panel and a group of sub-panels.

Successful applicants will be involved at the heart of the REF - a UK-wide exercise which assesses the quality of UK research and informs the distribution of public funds for research by the UK higher education funding bodies. Role-holders will gain experience of working with academics from across the HE sector, and develop and hone a wide range of administrative, advisory and personal management skills. The roles offer excellent opportunities for anyone looking to develop their career in HE administration.

The panel secretariat will be recruited on a part-time secondment basis from UK higher education institutions or organisations that have a substantial role in funding or assessing research in the UK. We will reimburse the employing organisation up to a maximum of £300 per day for panel secretaries (£350 for panel advisers) inclusive of salary and all related costs.
