The results of the UK-wide assessment of university research were published on 12 May 2022. The 1,878 submissions made by UK universities were assessed by 34 sub-panels working within the guidance of four main panels. The panels included 900 academic members, including 38 based internationally, and 220 research user members.

Following the assessment, each of the four main panels and its sub-panels have produced an overview report detailing how they carried out the assessment, and providing observations about the assessment process and the state of submitted research within their discipline areas. A report across the four main panels has also been published, which provides summary information about submissions and working methods as they applied across the main panels.

From June 2022, reports will also be available on the work of the Equality and Diversity Advisory Panel (EDAP) and the Interdisciplinary Research Advisory Panel (IDAP) during the assessment year. In advance of these publications, we have now published a blog by the chairs of each of these panels.

Notes:

  1. The overview reports are available on the REF website under ‘Publications and reports’ from 07:00 on 18 May 2022.
