We are saddened to hear of the death of our valued colleague Professor James Law OBE, who has been a valued member of Sub Panel 3 in the current Research Excellence Framework. He was always diligent, thoughtful and generous when reviewing the research submitted to this panel. As a Professor of Speech and Languages Sciences, James was a world leading researcher into child language development and disorders. He was pivotal in broadening as well as deepening our understanding of what enables and helps children to communicate. In particular, he has supported and lobbied at every level of society to improve children’s life outcomes. His loss is felt by many within and beyond the world of academic research.
