Each HEI submitting to the Research Excellence Framework is required to develop, document and apply a code of practice on the fair and transparent identification of staff with significant responsibility for research (where an HEI is not submitting 100% of Category A eligible staff); determining who is an independent researcher; and the selection of outputs.
Draft guidance on producing a code of practice was published in July 2018 (REF 2018/03). A final version of this guidance was published at the end of January 2019 (REF 2019/03).
The three workshops were held on 18th February in Birmingham, 21st February in London, and 25th February in Glasgow. The aim of these workshops was to enable HEIs to share their approaches to the three aspects of the code of practice:
-
Identifying staff with significant responsibility for research
-
Identifying independent researchers
-
Selecting outputs.
The workshops were aimed at senior managers and research professionals involved in developing their institution’s code of practice.
In addition to the workshops the REF team hosted a series of webinars relating to equality and diversity related issues in February 2019. Please click here for further details.
